Delay and Discomfort (the Me-Me post)

I have apparently reached my threshold with the current pain medication. I never thought I'd see the day that a little bit of Percocet couldn't fix the old girl up. Now I live in a place where my entire body can be numb on the stuff, but the throat pain lives on, like "Alien" or the refrain from a Disney song (pick any... they are all equally annoying at this point). Upping my dosage has taken the edge off, but it's short-lived, and I really need to watch myself so I don't pull a Heath Ledger. I've stopped my daily panic-attack meds, figuring there's no need for Xanax if I pass out every time I stop moving. Last night it was in front of the bookcase in the back hall, then I found myself on the sofa at five-thirty this morning, holding my knitting. I'd gotten up at ten to four, to get a drink and "more medication, please" and feel asleep waiting for it to work. That plan totally backfired, btw, as it was throat pain that woke me again. Gah. I've got a plan to sleep most of today, but swallowing is getting to be a terrific chore, so my waking hours will be spent wrapped around a Gatorade bottle. Tomorrow's sweater class will certainly be worth the cost of admission. I guess I'd better get busy on the 'instructions' for the class, since the voice won't hold up to the rigors of chatting through an entire session of knitting. Feeling nappish as well... gotta grab those while they're fresh! I'll type at y'all latah. C

Oh you poor dear! Maybe heat on the throat instead of ice? I don't have the answer. When do you have a follow up with the good doctor? g

Call your doctor and tell them that you are in pain... there are other pain meds that might work better for you. Well, you would probably have to go in person, but do check.

I agree...check with the doc to see if he/she has any suggestions, although you are an extremely difficult case when it comes to meds and weird reactions. Maybe he should look at it - did they leave an instrument in there? Have you ever tried Chloraseptic (sp?) spray. I went through a long spell of terrible sore throats and would carry that bottle around all the time - now they have drops too. Anything is worth a try...
I'm sure your ladies would understand if you postponed the first day of class OR maybe it would do you good to get your mind off of things (if thats possible). Love you, Rob
Bet the weight is coming off a little faster, heh?

Ack. I hope you can get some rest and some hours of ease from pain soon. It totally sucks that it isn't working for you. I would have to take atleast 2 percoset ever 4 hours to get any relief from my c-section for the tiniest bit of time. I actually found that once they switched me over to Vicodin it seemed to work better. Weird huh? Since it isn't as strong. But...other times I've had percoset...I was totally peachy :) So maybe it's after surgery that it doesn't help mask the pain? I don't know...but either way I hope you are feeling better soon :)

When I've had surgery pain, I found that good old advil worked better than all the "big guns" put together.

They also have a lidocaine liquid they can give you. When I had a bad case of strep last month they gave me a RX for it. I got it flavored vanilla and it wasn't bad at all and it seriously kicked the throat pain.

You have my deepest sympathy. I know what it's like to feel like your throat is on fire and have a hoard of little kids "MOM MOM"ing you.
