My world is shrinking

Something that continues to amaze and surprise me at every turn is just how alike we all are. I used to think I was terribly clever in my knitting and quilting, but just two days ago I discovered a woman in England who is every bit the coloraholic I am... right down to the pink and orange combo which, truth be told, I was pretty sure I owned. Today, it was the discovery of an Australian woman who makes the same type of odd-ball toys that my mom sewed up for us years ago... and she's authoring the patterns, or some such thing, though in our house they were known as 'wall-bears', no matter what type of creature it appeared to be.

My world has gotten very small since delving in on-line. I love the sense of community amongst knitters and crafty-chicks everywhere. There is always something new to see on a blog, some exciting new development out in the big, wide world to inspire us and drive us to do more, create more, be more. I have been leaving comments left and right, because I want bloggers to know I'm here, that I notice and appreciate the peek into your creative process. Getting to see your passions reflected in another knitters (or quilters) eyes, what they have wrought with their own hands, is such an amazing gift.

Tonight I discovered another knitter's passion for all things English. She sounds way too cool to ever stop by here, but I'd taken a photo yesterday, with the idea of a contest in mind at the time, and I've decided to post it tonight, just for Norma. The contest, in which wool will be won, is for you to comment or e-mail me with the answer to "what's wrong with this picture?" and the correct responses will be gathered and a drawing will be held for some sock yarn (wool... sorry, Dragonfly). Please don't notice the drying pile of muffin tins/baking sheets there on the left side:

And there you have it. I used to think I was unique, a rebel, a wunderkind of craftiness. I used to feel all alone out in the big, wide world, so sure that no one had the same need to create that I had. I just hadn't looked in the right places. Good night, blog readers and writers everywhere. You rock my ever-shrinking world. Camilla

I saw your comment about dots on the Be*mused blog and thought I would show you my dot project. One of the posts is at: http://artquiltmaker.blogspot.com/2007/05/another-quick-bite-or-byte.html. If you want to see more, search for Pineapple.

There is only one brown and navy sock. And there is cake! Time to share missy!

I think what's wrong is that the darker brown sock doesn't have a mate (did it ever?).

There's a pair for everyone in the haus plus a sock for your one-legged friend. How very thoughtful. That seems too easy, though.

Oh! Oh! I know! The socks are all for left feet. You are very sneaky.

ok, not even trying since it's wool only *tease* but I want to say that I love the look of your stove!

It appears you have duplicate pairs of all but one. How sad 8(

It looks like they are hanging with their mates, if not then of course you have a lone sock.

ok, other than socks hanging on the stove? ;)
I'll follow the masses and say the brown sock has no mate.
Super nice meeting you oh crafty one. Hope we can be best bitches. ;)

Well, the easy answer is that you're missing a sock. The pair to the brown one. I'd ask how it's possible to lose one of a pair of handknitted socks, except, um, I've did it before...blush..Anyway, if this was my house (and I so covet that stove!) what is wrong with this picture is that the stove top is actually clean! Yep, that can't be normal ;)

Hey Cami!!!
I'm finally "clicked-in"! Whooptie Whoop! You're super fantastic great super cool! Loves it! I miss you, the stove and the cooking that comes from it:( I'll be home soon!:)
Your knitting, might I say, is something quite fabulous! But not as fabulous as you! I know that you're finding a lot of wonderfully fascinating "other people", but I can contest that there is none better than you!
All My Love!

I looked and looked at the photo, and I counted socks, and played find the mate. I noticed that some socks were hanging by the top and some by the toe - but no, that wasn't it.

Finally, I decided that the problem with that photo is that the third sock from the left doesn't have a mate.

Just found you - fun blog. g

I am also a newbie to your blog. I looked at your photo, labourously wrote down which knitted piece was where - documenting from left to right. And bingo! There are 15 pieces (notice I am not calling them "socks" just in case some aren't) and they all have matching pieces except one. The lone single piece is a brown striped or fair isle piece.
It was only then that I discovered the amazing benefit of clicking on the picture to enlarge it! DUH
My eyes have not forgiven me - in fact I think it was because of the eyestrain that I could not then post this comment. Google and I have not seen eye-to-eye for some time. (Pun intended) But hopefully things are sorted out now.
I will return,
Janey

Hey, I finally get to blog you and like the rest of my life, I'm a day late and a dollar short. Can I come over and help you find the mate?

I assume the socks are hanging on the stove to dry. You didn't actually WASH the "groupie" socks (the ones touched by the Yarn Harlot), DID YOU?!?!?
